Event Information

A sportsman antweight tournament inside a night of live music. Check out eligumble.com/rockandrobots for an overview of the event and eligumble.com/rockandrobots/records to see results and videos from previous events.

If there aren't many signups here, it's because the event is mostly managed on a Facebook chat - e-mail tolerablemusic@gmail.com to join. We get at least 8 entrants each month.

VENUE
The Others, a multi-purpose arts venue in Stoke Newington, London. For more details: https://www.theothers.uk.com/
The only access is up some stairs; no lifts are available.
Pack light because there isn't much storage space in the venue. You probably won't need a whole toolbox, just your transmitter, your robot, a charger and any interchangeable parts you wish to use.
Address: 6 Manor Road, Stoke Newington, London, N16 5SA
If you're coming from north of London, I can recommend parking at Cheshunt or Theobalds Grove and getting the Weaver line train to Stoke Newington.

DATE/TIME
Sunday 11 May 2025
Arrive any time from 17:00.
Fights will start at 18:00. Main tournament ends by 19:00 and the side event should finish by 19:35.
The arena will stay in place throughout the night and if you're ok with it, attendees may approach you to have a go on your robots whenever there isn't a band on stage.
Stay after the fighting to see the headline acts and, if you like, perform in the after-party.

EVENT INFO
To attempt to grow the night, we now charge entry fees of £4 for roboteers. First-time entrants and roboteers aged 15 and younger can compete for free, however U16s will need to be accompanied by a paying adult.

Because we will be providing the entertainment, I'm framing this as an underground robot fighting event feel free to dress for the occasion, bring your Martin Mason/Plunderbird act, etc. I usually wear a lab coat during the tournament, for example. Put on a show. This is the place for colourful robots, fancy roboteering, OoTAs and showboating.
Roboteers will have the opportunity for some quick pre/post fight interviews - let me know if you'd prefer not to have any.

FORMAT
1 robot per team in the main competition. You may bring additional robots for the rumble and side event.
Competition format will depend on the number of entrants but all main robots will be guaranteed 3 fights and there will be around 20-30 fights in total.
Fights will last 2 minutes and can end in draws. Drawn knockout fights are settled with a "joust" - a fight on a narrow, wall-less piece of perspex placed over the arena.
The winner of the main competition will receive a gold medal. The winner of the rumble (untimed) will receive a silver medal. The side event winner wins a small nut-shaped trophy.

SIDE EVENT
This month's planned side event is TBC but may be either racing or grudge matches.

ARENA
The arena is an octagon of diameter 0.9m with steeply sloped inner walls 4 cm high and outer walls around 10cm high. There are 2 pits on opposite edges with a total drop-off of about 22%

ROBOTS
Make sure your robots have sufficient battery capacity to fight at least 4 times in quick succession. There will be minimal time between fights for recharging and repairing. I will keep a glue gun plugged in near the stage in case bodywork repairs need to be made.
We can't run spinning or high-kinetic energy weapons safely due to the unenclosed arena.
Any exposed metal should be blunt - we don't want razor blades flying at people.
Robots may only exceed 20cm in one XY dimension to ensure they can be pitted.
Weights will only be checked if something looks obviously too heavy (150g for wheeled/tracked robots, 300g for shufflers & walkers). Exceptions can be made if overall silliness outweighs the advantage given by the extra weight.
